"Music should have a purpose you know"- Steve Garrigan, Kodaline

KODALINE TICKETS HAVE ARRIVED!

At long last Kodaline are near the Toon (Newcastle), They are performing on Friday 29th March. It really will be "Good Friday".
Steve, Mark, Vinny May and Jason, will be playing at The Cluny at 8pm. Kodaline will be supported by In the Valley Below and Gavin James.

I always like to do a bit of research into a support act before a gig if I don't know them. So I've been listening to In The Valley Below recently. So who are they and whats their music like?... Well I'll give you the low down.

In The Valley Below are a new duo band delivering a blend of male and female vocals. The band are from Echo Park, LA. They have recently been doing gigs mainly in the US. After listening to their track- 'Peaches' I instantly fell in love with their dark, bassy textures and vocals from Jeffery Jacobs and Angela Gail. Their music genre has been described as- Indie Dusk, Post Ghost, Sex Prog and Dark Duet. From their Facebook Biography they have been described as...

"Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob have crafted a sultry collection of melodic duets in a bed of rumbling drums, synth machines, gritty guitars, and layers of strange and dreamy keyboards"

I have also looked into Gavin James...

Dublin based singer songwriter Gavin James has currently had no.1 on iTunes album chart. His debut- ' Say Hello- EP'  entered the Irish iTunes album chart at no.1. 'Say Hello' was recorded in Leeds with music producer James Kenosha.

From listening to Gavin James recently, I've really enjoyed his new EP. He reminds me of- Ray LaMontagne. Gavin's voice is a great example of modern country folk, his guitar skills also compliment his great music style. I'm sure he'll be great tomorrow night live! So there we have it... bit of background information on some great supporting acts for Kodaline. I'll be sure to update after the gig!

Check out Gavin James...

Cider Black Please

I've been very busy over the past few months! Lots of University deadlines creeping up on me! However I have been out and about attending some amazing gig nights at the Newcastle o2 Academy and some local shows. Cider Black please... best drink to have at a gig!

I've been meaning to upload some gig photos/videos for a while! So we're going back in time now to November when my friend Laura and I saw Irish band The Coronas and Hudson Taylor. I have been following Hudson Taylor for just over a year now through social networking and YouTube. I heard they were playing at Newcastle Student Union and couldn't wait to see them support The Coronas.

Harry and Alfie

So.... A bit about Hudson Taylor. Harry (20) and Alfie (18), both brothers from Ireland, began busking and uploading videos to YouTube. Their music range takes inspiration from Folk and Pop. They have done covers of well known songs, however they always put their own stamp on it! Since reaching to well over 2 million views on YouTube they have released their album- Cinematic Lifestyle, which is now available to buy on iTunes.

As well as supporting The Coronas before Christmas, Hudson Taylor have been touring with Jake Bugg supporting him at his gigs. Hudson Taylor have released a new song called- Drop in the ocean. So check out this video to hear what they sound like.

Hudson Taylor were on stage for about 30 minutes. There set songs for the night were-
- Butterflies
-Watchtower
- Hideaway
- Left Alone
- Cinematic Lifestyle
- Chasing Rubies
- Battles
My Guitar Necklace signed by Hudson Taylor!

Harry and Alfie were really lovely after the show, I was able to meet them and talk to them about their music. They said how crazy it is meeting fans (like me) who sing along to their music. I was also lucky to have my guitar Necklace signed, a photo with the boys and also a cheeky follow from Alfie on Twitter!

Enjoy!
